Did Jesús go to hell between His death and resurrection?
There is a lot of confusion here because many people use "hell" for everything, but the Bible distinguishes terms.
In the Old Testament, Sheol appears (the place of the dead), and in the New Testament Hades (general equivalent), as a temporary reality, distinct from the "lake of fire" which is the final judgment (Revelation 20:11–15).
Jesus did not go to a place of torment to "keep paying" for sin. On the cross He said, "It is finished" (John 19:30), affirming that the payment was complete. He also told the thief, "Today you will be with me in paradise" (Luke 23:43), not "today you will be with me in torment."
There are texts like Psalm 16:10 that are sometimes translated confusingly as "hell," but the sense points to God not leaving the Messiah in the realm of the dead, nor allowing His decay (Psalm 16:10; Acts 2:27–31).
In summary: Jesus was in the realm of the dead (Sheol/Hades) in the biblical sense, but He did not go to the place of punishment. His suffering ended when He died, and His redemptive work was completed on the cross (John 19:30; 2 Corinthians 5:21).
