What does the Bible say about women pastors?

The Bible teaches that God assigned distinct spiritual roles to men and women within the church. In 1 Timothy 2:11–12, the apostle Paul states that a woman should not teach or exercise spiritual authority over a man. This teaching is not based on culture or education, but on the order of creation (1 Timothy 2:13–14).

Pastoral leadership includes preaching, teaching publicly, and exercising spiritual authority, so according to this passage, that role was given to men.

This does not mean that women are less valuable or less spiritual. The Bible clearly shows that they have a vital role in the work of God: they can pray, prophesy, evangelize, serve, and teach other women and children (1 Corinthians 11:5; Titus 2:3–5).

The Scriptures also present faithful women such as Deborah, Miriam, and Priscilla, but none was established as a pastor over a congregation. God designed the church with a specific structure, where men carry the primary responsibility of spiritual leadership (Ephesians 5:22–33).
